Creadoodle cotton is available in several collections with different qualities and colours. For all collections the thickness is stated in mm and when you order (for example) 3 mm, the product you’ll receive will be approximately 3 mm. It’s not easy to see the difference between 0.5 mm. 0.75 mm and 1 mm. All suppliers use different measurements for their products, we try to be as accurate as possible.
For the length of the ropes and string, there can be a small difference due to the fact it is a natural product and every production process can be slightly different, so order a bit more when it is important to be enough.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN rope, string and cord, 1-ply, 2-ply or 3-ply?
You will find different explanaitions in different places, but it is not so difficult as you may think!
– String is a bundel of threads slightly twisted together to form a bundle, a string or 1-ply. It is a soft product which gives a very nice subtle result and the ends brush out beautifully for a nice fringe. Often used for soft, lush pieces, tassels and fringe, also favorite among weavers.
–Rope is a group of strings twisted together. 2-ply when 2 strings are twisted and 3-ply when 3 strings are twisted together forming 1 rope. It is more firm, very durable and very good for making pieces which need structure, like geometric pieces. It is possible to unravel the rope to make a fringe with a perm -)
And there is braided rope, which is an even more firm product then the twisted rope. Where twisted rope is made from a group of strings twisted together, the braided rope has a multiple amount of strings or threads braided together to create a very durable and robust cord.
–Cord is a name for both string and rope, some may say braided rope is cord, but in the end you can use just the one you like most. There is no right or wrong!
For beginners I would reccomend to use a rope to learn the very basics since it shows you better what you are doing. A 1-ply string is very soft and once you made a tight knot, it is hard to undo. I can advise to start with a DIY kit planthanger Feel free to ask!
I often get the question why my products are thicker then in other shops. That can easily be explained by telling you it is very profitable to sell a 2 mm rope as a 3 mm.
In order to find out if the product you want to buy in a certain shop, is the same thickness as you would expect it to be, is to look at the weight of the product.
When for instance an 8 mm rope, 150 meter on a cone, weighs 3 kilo, you know it is not 8 mm. At Creadoodle 150 meter of 8 mm rope has a weight of almost 5 kilo!
That makes a big difference in the price of course.
Because we mostly offer natural products, the thickness and colour may vary slightly with each batch.
Creadoodle stands for natural products, all products are 100% natural and or recycled.
When you’re working with any type of fiber, small dust particles will come loose. These particles won’t only make a mess on the floor, you will also inhale them. Our bodies are able to easily break down natural materials, but synthetic fibers cause a lot more trouble. This is why we recommend you to be aware of what products you’re using and choose for natural materials if possible.
Most of our products are either made from 100% natural cotton, OEKOTEX100 cotton or recycled OEKOTEX100 cotton. All wool offered in this shop is 100% natural and organically dyed.
We do offer a few products that are made with synthetic materials: the metallic fibers. Unfortunately these products can’t be made with natural materials, but we didn’t want to withhold these from you!

The main difference between “normal” and “combed” cotton is that the latter is subjected to a second process which consists of passing the thread through “combs” responsible for removing impurities. This process can eliminate up to 15% of the fibers, leaving only the longest and strongest fibers. The main advantage of combed cotton is the overall quality of the garment, as it is made only with long fibers, it is much more resistant, less likely to break, and feels much softer. It also supports the dyeing processes better and the color stays brighter for longer.
Organic Cotton: Cotton guaranteed by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS®) certification, which protects the health of the people involved in the supply chain, from workers to end users.
Combed organic cotton is not genetic engineering and has grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, therefore it can bear the GOTS® seal The GOTS® production model guarantees safety and fair working conditions for both cotton producers and textile workers. It is the highest required seal that ensures a thread that respects nature and people.
Detox cotton: Cotton free from toxic or harmful substances in the supply chain. The yarn is dyed without the use of carcinogenic or allergenic dyes, making it completely hypoallergenic, which is why it is certified with OEKO-TEX®’s DETOX TO ZERO seal OEKO-TEX®’s DETOX TO ZERO is an efficient verification system that aims to implement the criteria of the Greenpeace DETOX campaign within the production facilities and guarantee cotton free from harmful or toxic substances.
This collection is available in 4 sizes: 0.5 mm, 1 mm, 2 mm and 4 mm. Perfect for making rainbows, weaving, crochet, needle punch, knitting, making tassels or a beautiful soft fringe.
